About OSU Fire Service Training
OSU Fire Service Training (FST) is the agency responsible for all firefighter training within the state of Oklahoma. As an extension unit of OSU's College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology, FST has a legislative mandate to train Oklahoma's emergency responders, offering a broad spectrum of training from basic skills to advanced specialized topics. FST provides training in all 77 counties of Oklahoma, conducting over 30,000 hours of training each year across Oklahoma and the Midwestern United States. OSU's FST delivers over 3,000 direct training courses and reaches more than 30,000 people annually. What began more than 90 years ago as a program to teach basic firefighting skills now provides training in ten professional skill areas including: Firefighting, NIMS National Incident Management, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Hazardous Materials, Officer/Instructor, Industrial, Wildland Firefighting, Arson Investigation and Inspection, Technical/Rescue, and Emergency Management. The program has a long-standing commitment of service to Oklahoma's paid and volunteer firefighters, which now extends to emergency responders outside of this traditional realm. OSU-OKC offers fire academy programs, including options for high school students through concurrent enrollment. These academies provide certifications such as IFSAC Firefighter 1 & 2, Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations, and course completion certificates in areas like Flammable Liquids and Gas Emergencies and Basic Auto Extrication. Students can also pursue EMT certification. OSU FST also offers rescue courses, with front line responders serving as instructors, bringing real-world experience and training to meet the needs of advanced rescues. Training includes Structure Collapse, Swiftwater, Boat Operations, Trench Rescue, Grain Bin Rescue, High-Angle Rescue, and Vehicle Extrication.
