About SFMTA
The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) manages transportation in San Francisco, overseeing the Municipal Railway (Muni), parking, traffic engineering, pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, and taxi regulation. Muni, founded in 1912, is one of America's oldest public transit agencies, serving over 200 million riders annually. The SFMTA aims to provide efficient and equitable mobility services to the citizens of San Francisco. As a unified agency, the SFMTA can use its authority over the city's streets to add bus lanes and transit signal priority in order to improve service performance for the transit system.
