About Truck Driver Training Academy - Cleveland Community College

The Truck Driver Training Academy at Cleveland Community College prepares students to operate various commercial vehicles, including tractor trailers, dump trucks, and bucket trucks. The academy focuses on teaching proper driving skills, safety procedures, commercial motor vehicle laws and regulations, and the basic principles for operating commercial vehicles. The program includes online ELDT theory training exercises for three weeks, followed by 2.5 weeks of in-person basic control skills and road/highway driving training exercises. Upon successful completion of the approximately 200-hour academy, students are qualified to take the Commercial Driver's License exam administered on campus and become eligible for employment by commercial trucking firms. The academy is offered four times a year, with classes beginning in August, November, February, and May. Cleveland Community College also provides financial assistance options, including grants, scholarships, and work-study programs, to help students fund their education. Workforce Development also offers financial assistance for most academies. Additionally, the college has flexible, fully online degrees in Arts, Science, IT, and Cyber Security. The Truck Driver Training academy is considered a fast-track program to a new career. Cleveland Community College started CDL training classes for their Lineman program in cooperation with Duke Energy and local utility companies. Due to high demand, a separate CDL academy was created to train the ELDT theory and behind-the-wheel range and road instruction. Graduates are in high demand and can quickly find employment opportunities.
